Pack your bags for a nightmare tropical vacation – but don’t do it too soon
A few months ago, Spike Chunsoft gave us their biggest jumpscare yet: Komaeda Nagito appearing at Nintendo Direct.
Speaking directly into the camera, Komaeda kindly asked if we were okay, since we seemed pretty out of it. But how could we be okay following the announcement that Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is coming back from the dead? Being reminded that the original, murder-mystery visual novel is just about old enough to use Discord isn’t exactly news that makes me feel spry, happy, or okay, Komaeda. Get out of my face.
Passage-of-time-related memento mori aside, the announcement made it official: a rework of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is on the horizon. More specifically, Danganronpa 2×2 is due to come out in 2026.

Since the infamous Nintendo Direct announcement, Spike Chunsoft has shared a few more details about what thrills, chills, and spills to expect in Danganronpa 2×2. We know a few details about the voice cast (yes, Brian Beacock is returning as Monokuma), a few key details about the crew, and how to get a bizarre Monokuma-themed bucket hat on release.
What the developers haven’t announced is when exactly in 2026 the nightmare will return. But thanks to a couple of Amazon pre-order pages, we just might have the truth bullets we need to figure that out.
When is Danganronpa 2×2 coming out?

According to a few product listings on Amazon, Danganronpa 2×2 might be coming out in Europe on November 30th, 2026.
Several listings shared by Reef Entertainment offer pre-orders for Danganronpa 2×2 on the Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and Sony PlayStation 5, with a text box stating “This item will be released on November 30, 2026” above the pre-order button. The listings also state that the games will ship to the United Kingdom on December 1st. Similar trends can be seen across Amazon listings for France and Germany. And, these listings are also all linked on the official Danganronpa 2×2 website.

Of course, this could be a mistake: a similar trio of listings shared on Amazon US, also linked via the official Danganronpa 2×2 webpage, state that the game will be released on December 31st, 2026. However, there’s a pretty strong chance that that’s just to say that it’ll come out before the end of the year – which is information we’ve had since the remake was announced. The same information is listed on the Psycho Tropical Vacation Package editions.
Similarly, Gamestop, EBGames, Amazon Canada, Amazon Mexico, PnPGames, and Walmart all list the release date as December 31st, with some offering delivery in January. VGP explicitly refers to this December 31st release date as a “placeholder”.
At the time of writing, no other listings included on the official website share a release date. A few also opt to state that the release date is still to be confirmed.
So, take this with a pinch of salt – it could just be an error on the listing – but maybe get ready for a little wintering on Jabberwock Island. Just in case.
Which platforms is Danganronpa 2×2 coming out on?

Danganronpa 2×2 will be released on the Nintendo Switch 2, Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The Steam page doesn’t confirm which operating systems it’ll run on just yet.
It’s available to pre-order on all platforms at various outlets (as you’ve probably already seen). You can also get the Psycho Tropical Vacation Package for any platform you desire.
How much does the standard edition of Danganronpa 2×2 cost?
The regular edition of Danganronpa 2×2 is set to cost around £55, €65, $60 USD, $85 CAD, or $1,300 MXN.
Meanwhile, the Psycho Tropical Vacation Package (yes, I’m sick of that name too) costs £130, €140, or $140 USD, depending on your location.
What’s included in the Psycho Tropical Vacation Package?

In case you feel like dropping a small fortune on a limited edition pre-order, you can get your copy of Dangranronpa 2×2 complete with:
- A reversible Monokuma bucket hat;
- Two Kidrobot vinyl figures of Monokuma and Monomi, standing at around 3” tall;
- The reworked original soundtrack, seemingly on CD;
- A special clamshell-style outer case
And, if you order it through Spike Chunsoft directly, then you can also get a Monokuma flight tag. (Ultimate) Lucky you.
